I am looking for a tool to use to review and evaluate the provision in our secondary school library and my own skills. I have looked at the CiLiP PKSB but am really looking for something more school focused. Does anyone know of anything? With thanks in advance.

Over the next few weeks and months of uncertainty, the Great School Libraries campaign group wanted to do something useful. With schools closing and many now find themselves at home supporting their children's learning. We wanted to offer a place to ask a question if you are a parent looking for resources, a school librarian trying to support your local school community or a teacher we want to be here for you.

Our team are happy to share their expertise and will try to answer as many questions as we can to help point you in the right direction. If you post a question below we will answer as soon as we can. Please create a title that will help others understand the information you need. Thank you

Thanks for your enquiry. We would also suggest that you look at the IFLA School Library Guidelines which covers the aspirational and inspirational role of the school library. You can find these guidelines here... https://www.ifla.org/files/assets/school-libraries-resource-centers/publications/ifla-school-library-guidelines.pdf
Thanks for your enquiry. SLS-UK has a School Library Award endorsed by the SLA, SLG and Libraries Connected. The award is a self-assessment process conducted by the designated member of staff in charge of the library and endorsed by the Head Teacher. It is an audit of 20 key activities with supporting documentation where necessary.
Aims of the Award
To accredit school libraries through a straightforward and cost-effective self-assessment process that is robust and equitable across the UK
To recognise the work of library staff especially in designated library posts
To highlight the work of school libraries and their staff in raising the educational achievement of children and young people
To raise awareness of good school library provision in school communities and the profession locally and nationally.
School Library Services (SLSs) will administer the Award at a local level to the schools they serve. If you don't have an SLS nearby but would like to do the award, please contact me on nina.simon@visionrcl.org.uk
Following a self-assessment process, the awarding SLS gives certificates acknowledging the main award, or, in the case of high-achieving schools, the Gold SLS-UK School Library Award.
Schools pay a fee to their awarding SLS for administration of the award and certificate
£50 for schools who subscribe to an SLS
£60 for non-subscribing schools who are members of the SLA
£70 for all other schools.
Hope that helps Nina
