Over the next few weeks and months of uncertainty, the Great School Libraries campaign group wanted to do something useful. With schools closing and many now find themselves at home supporting their children's learning. We wanted to offer a place to ask a question if you are a parent looking for resources, a school librarian trying to support your local school community or a teacher we want to be here for you.

Our team are happy to share their expertise and will try to answer as many questions as we can to help point you in the right direction. If you post a question below we will answer as soon as we can. Please create a title that will help others understand the information you need. Thank you

We already have some guidance on using Zoom with students, even though it has not yet been rolled out. Perhaps your school is working on these as there are the sort of safeguarding concerns that school staff apply normally (no one-on-one meetings on Zoom, everyone dressed appropriately, computers in appropriate areas not student bedrooms, meetings only during school hours). That said, meetings should work well with small numbers.
Of course everyone has varying degrees of tech knowledge so a bit of guidance might help students e.g. make sure you are well lit from the front or side. If you have a strong light behind you, it will put you in darkness and no-one will be able to see anything but your outline. Don't look down on your camera so you give yourself a double chin and we all see up your nose. There are quite a few helpful videos on YouTube now on how to look good in virtual meetings. Zoom seems to work better on newer devices. Good luck with your meetings!
